An average day at LIVE VINE Vineyards & Winery is dictated by season. In the spring, days consist of pruning vines, planting, and trellis maintenance in the vineyard and racking wines in the winery. In the summer, more attention is given to winery maintaining and testing wine, topping up barrels and preparing for harvest. Vines are trimmed, wires are adjusted, and nets are applied in the vineyard. Harvest occurs in late summer, early fall. What a busy time of year that is! Days consist of morning in the vineyard and afternoons and evenings in the winery. Grapes are monitored and when perfect, picked early in the morning. They are then immediately crushed in the winery and the process begins to turn them into wine. Also during this time, wines are being transferred from stainless steel tanks to barrels while other wines are being transferred from barrels to bottle. Bottled wine is labeled and readied for sale. Although the winter is the slowest time of year, there is still plenty to do. Wines are constantly monitored, adjusted, and racked as needed. Bottling may also occur during this time. Ground maintenance occurs in the vineyard and vine orders are placed for spring plantings.
The enjoyment of truly making something from nothing and watching people enjoy the fruits of our labor inspires us.
Getting our farm off the ground has given us the opportunity to network with others in our industry. Butte County has a wide array of both farmers and winemakers. We have made a lot of friends and embrace the collaborative relationships that we've been lucky enough to forge.
We make wine. Enough said. :-)
We have always enjoyed the farm trail. It was a motivating factor in starting our winery and we look forward to being a part of the tour for the first time this year.
This is our premiere year!
The farm trail gives us an opportunity to showcase our wines with a broad spectrum of Butte County's population. Over the farm trail weekend, we hope to be able to share what our vineyard and winery have to offer with people that may not have found us otherwise.
The farm trail has spotlighted the whole agri community in Butte County. Buying local and non-commercial is important to the people in our community. The farm trail has enlightened people that there are a lot of fresh, local, alternatives to the mass markets. The farm trail emphasises that Butte county farms are family run businesses.
All of the local farms and wineries have been supportive and encouraging.
